Broadway.com

Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator

Summary

Introducing a temporary themed aesthetic for Broadway.com's mobile application, this Hadestown-inspired sequence was my first exploration into UX/UI design. The biggest obstacle I faced with this project was considering screen real estate and composition, as this was also the first time I needed to consider displaying work on a smaller device. Once the app design itself was complete, I also developed a promotional video for the app that would ideally draw users in to the product, and potentially even introduce them to the musical upon which it is based.

These two storyboards were eventually merged in order to create the final look for the promotional video, pulling from a combination of the shots to keep the running motifs of the spotlight and the paper ticket featured for the duration of the sequence.

Experimentation

My approach to developing the app was to actually animate the various screens for the application itself first, including the loading page, the main page, and the shows schedule, as well as a mockup of a person interacting with the app in real time. I think in future, simplifying the design and using different aesthetic choices would be beneficial, as the fluid geometry of the style choice left a lot of unnecessary blank space, which caused me to make sacrifices when later including text. Other visual elements like gradients and drop shadows also contributed to the visual confusion.
